TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION
• History of student growth in Indiana.
• Analyses associated with the 2014-2015 academic year.
• Analyses associated with the 2015-2016 academic year and
beyond.
HISTORY OF STUDENT GROWTH IN INDIANA
• Started under Wes Bruce in 2008 with the Rooney Foundation.
• Included the calculation of student growth percentiles and student
growth projections.
• Due to feedback from eld that they wanted to know in advance
what their growth goal was, Indiana began providing scale score
targets for typical and higher growth a year in advance.
• This “rolling baseline” approach to student growth is currently
implemented in the Indiana waiver.

2014-2015 STUDENT GROWTH IN INDIANA
• This “rolling baseline” approach to student growth is currently
implemented in the Indiana waiver.
• Previously projections were made from the current year and used
the following.
• With the assessment transition, projections couldn’t be made
from last year (2013-2014) to this year (2014-2015) because a
new test was being implemented.
• With the data available we link (equate) the current test to last
year’s test and go back and create projections like we would have.

CONSIDERATIONS
• Model: Are we calculating exactly what is needed? In the past
we delivered data les that were extensively post-processed
by Indiana DOE.
• Output format: Are we deliveringles/data that makes it as
easy as possible for IDOE/SBOE to do their work?
• Communication: What can we do to assist in the
communication of the calculations/results to stakeholders in
Indiana.
