  1. Open by Design Using Open Methodologies and Tools to Foster Rapid Cross-State Innovation
  2. Goal: Build state capacity to validate growth analyses and results using open tools Goal: Enable collaboration between SDEs related to growth model development and use. Goal: Enhance the expertise of SDEs related to growth model development and use. Develop Data Scientists like Hans Rosing in every state! Realization: Ownership of analyses by the state led to State ownership/oversight of the SGP analyses and enhanced their ability to explain and work with local stakeholders. Realization: States are the crucibles for innovation and development. Realization: We are all developers (not just computer geeks)! Goal: Leverage modern development tools to bring together state and national experts in the co- development of innovative tools and practices: 1. Collaboration without coordination II. Expose Process (everything you do should have a URL associated with it)
  3. Open source statistical software environment and associated package for SGP analyses and visualizations. Web based distributed version control system based upon Git. GitHub allows distributed teams to collaboratively work with minimal coordination often utilizing agile development methods. Projects using GitHub SchoolView/SGP HealthCare.gov Thousands of Software Projects Various other services and frameworks allowing for the D3.js creation of web based documentation and interactive visualization
  4. Creative Commons licenses associated with SchoolView are Share-and-Share Alike
  5. The SchoolView GitHub Site
  6. My GitHub Page
  7. The SGP Package source code repository (my branch)
  8. SGPstateData repository: meta-data for state assessments
  9. Indiana’s GitHub Repository for annual SGP analyses
  10. Rich documentation available alongside source code
  11. Rich documentation can include interactive visualizations!!!
  12. Open by Design Share and Share Alike!
