- Indiana WIDA-ACCESS Data • Received data from Indiana DOE on June 17th. • Prepared and ran analyses on data June 17th-June 18th. • Results presented herein are preliminary (and based upon preliminary data) but “check out” based upon comparisons with two other states we have already received WIDA-ACCESS data from. - Participation • We are still looking at this and may need some help with regard to historical data. • 2020 and 2021 data included almost all students with scale scores. • 2021 data include approximately 100 students across all grades without scaled scores • Overall counts with scale scores did, in general decrease from 2020 to 2021. • This could be due to lower participation (given that we don’t have missing data in our file). • This could be due to lower enrollment for this population. - Academic impact • Initial analyses indicate substantial to moderate academic impact in grades 1 to 6, moderate impact in grades 7 to 9, and no impact or gains in grade 10 to 12. • These results follow the same pattern seen in the two other states examined thus far. Indiana faring a little better. • Results in higher grades should be viewed with caution. • Results in higher grades are likely indicative of how poorly these students have grown historical as opposed to how well they were instructed over the course of the pandemic. • ELL students in higher grades tend to be long term ELLs who have failed to transition out (as opposed to newly entering ELLs).
