Years of Learning
Learning by the Year:
On the concept of a year’s worth of learning
A year’s worth of learning (sometimes referred to as a year’s worth of growth or a year’s worth of progress) is not a new idea. The phrase has been commonplace at least since student growth models became prominent in the 00s. In looking through some old presentations the other day I actually came across a paper that @shangyi and I wrote on the topic 15 years ago that I completely forgot about. The phrase rolls off the tongue suggesting something simple and obvious. Scratch beneath the surface and one finds the concept is anything but.
