Michigan Assessment Consortium (MAC)
Michigan organisation partnering with Office of Educational Assessment and Accountability (OEAA) on the Smarter Balanced interim assessment programme.
The partnership is what allowed the rebranding of the programme from a “pilot” to a professional learning opportunity — a deliberate move away from language implying provisional status. See Smarter Balanced Interim Adoption.
MAC is also conducting the barrier study to determine what prevents districts and schools from using the interim assessment. It was underway at the time of Session 1 — Using the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessment; no results appear in this corpus. Given that participation is flat and OEAA cannot see usage at the user level (How many educators are actually using the interim assessments?), the barrier study is the main instrument Michigan has for understanding its own adoption problem.
