Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium
Multi-state assessment consortium. Michigan uses its interim assessments as a voluntary offering to districts (Smarter Balanced Interim Adoption) and its subscore performance indicator method as the basis of current M-STEP claim and domain reporting (M-STEP Subscore Reporting).
Two open items involve the consortium directly:
- Whether the interim reports can be modified to carry the corresponding M-STEP score — Ask Smarter Balanced whether interim reports can carry the M-STEP score. Identified in the room as “a question for Smarter Balanced” and not yet asked.
- The SBAC subscore indicator method was outperformed by CT-PO on both deviance against real data and classification accuracy and consistency across every simulated condition — CT-PO vs SBAC Simulation Results Deck.
Smarter Balanced interim assessments are tied to Tools for Teachers, the instructional resource that gives the interim score a path to action.
